Mars is the planet of ACTION and so when he is in retrograde, people tend to take a step back. They are less aggressive, less proactive, more reactive, they are less likely to take any risks and they no longer have a desire for competition. 

This retrograde of Mars will have a major impact because Mars will transit back and forth through the mutable / airy sign of Gemini for the next seven months until March of 2023!

When Mars Retrograde is in Gemini, people are generally much more talkative than usual. They are more curious, more inquisitive, more talkative and they have more of an open mind. Mercury rules the mind and our ability to think and Scorpio represents the archetype of the researcher, so the mind is receptive to investigation and research now. When Mercury is in Scorpio people can, generally speaking, be more suspicious and fond of crime and mysteries in general. They can be more passionate and intense in regards to anything that they find themselves curious about or which they do not understand. They may also be more apt to talk about sex and sexual needs (especially with their partner).

When Mercury (I think) is Square (Hard Aspect) to Jupiter (I Expand) you may experience thinking and behavior that is considered over-the-top and you may have trouble reigning yourself in. Any decisions that need to be made should be well thought out before committing yourself to any options.

When Jupiter (I expand) is in Pisces (I Believe) people are generally more sensitive, compassionate, introverted, romantic, artistic, and creative.  This is a good time to let go of negative patterns of thought and behavior. Spirituality becomes more important under this transit and people are more willing to push past the boundaries of what holds them back. They are also more sympathetic and understanding of others  and are more willing to help them - but only in such a way that they do not draw too much (if any) attention to themselves. When Jupiter is in Pisces you can see an increase in anonymous acts of charity.

Aspects, or relationships between planets is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be examined. Looking at my own chart, Jupiter at 0° Pisces is making an opposition to my Natal Mercury at 3° Libra. The hallmark of this aspect is overthinking too much which can cause problems with communication as well as putting your plans into action. The remedy here is to simply slow down and do one thing at a time.

Over the course of the book, the author learns about Santeria from members of her extended family and the above remedy is one such piece of advice that she is given. 

In the Hoodoo tradition, we are taught that when we are cleansing a house or room you start from the top and work towards the bottom (in the case of a multi-level dwelling) and then from the back towards the front and out the front door. This is to drive the evil, the unclean, the unwanted energy out of the house. That being said, I actually like this ritual as I can tell you from experience that it is quite effective!

New Moon in Scorpio

A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon occupy the same degree of the same zodiac time at the same time. As you can see from the above image, both the Sun and Moon will occupy 02° Scorpio - making this a New Moon.

Whereas a Full Moon represents endings and completion, New Moons represents new ideas, opportunities or people. The New Moon is transiting the sector of the natural chart represents shared resources, sex,  birth, death and transformation. New opportunities for sex, transformation, and the sharing of resources are possible now.

When the New Moon is in Scorpio, people are generally more sexual and need more intimacy. They may seek out some kind of deep connection with another person that is intense and powerful.  However, they can be more skeptical and judgmental which can add to the difficulty of finding the intimacy that is needed.

When the Sun is in Scorpio people can be more thoughtful and brooding.  As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, they can be more intense and passionate. The need for sex and intimacy may also be stronger. They may also be somewhat more secretive but demand more transparency from those around them. Their focus may turn to transforming their lives in some way that they consider profound and meaningful.

For example, in my chart the Sun in 0° Scorpio is making an applying conjunction to my Ascendant at 5° Scorpio.  If the Sun is conjunct the Ascendant (myself) it is also opposite the Descendent (others), you put more focus on yourself and your own needs, wants, and desires and this can sometimes be at the expense of others. This aspect also accentuates the theme of beginnings so there is a strong likelihood that a new beginning of some kind will be initiated when the transit Sun is conjunct the natal Ascendant.

Venus rules Taurus which is 180° from Scorpio therefore Venus is said to be in detriment in Scorpio What this means is that it's power is diminished, it is cut off from it's usual resources and will need to learn how to adapt in order to fulfill its urges. Venus' urge is to love and be loved, to have affection, comfort, and security. Generally speaking when Venus is in Scorpio people are more intense and passionate about romance, sex, sensuality, security, and mysteries. They want these things but have trouble attracting them, they try too hard, they put themselves in vulnerable positions and things may or may not work out for them.

The first house is all about you: what I want, what I need. With Venus in the First house you want to love, to be loved, to have security, and to experience comfort and luxury. Scorpio adds an intensity to the desire to love and be loved.  You are drawn to anyone who is dark, mysterious, and who has the potential to give you the sense of security that you desire. However, since Venus is in detriment in Scorpio you may also try too hard, you may come across as too needy, too clingy, or too possessive which may cause anyone you direct your attention and interest toward to pull away from you.

In addition to house placement, you will also want to look at any aspects formed between Venus in 0° Scorpio and any other planets in your natal chart. For example. Transit Venus in 0° Scorpio is making a square to my Natal Jupiter in 02° Aquarius.  When Venus is square to Jupiter, you encounter obstacles in  regards to making love grow. For this reason you may compensate by overindulging in food or drink (pleasure of the senses) or buying things that you really don't need or which do not bring the satisfaction that you thought it would.  Laziness can also a result of Venus square Jupiter.
