Valentine's Day is just a few weeks away and everyone's thoughts now turn to love and romance. Let us see what's in the stars for our zodiac friends and see how these opposites will attract! 

Aries- You would normally be aggressive and assertive in all that you do but this month you're shyer and more timid in matters of love and romance. You may give the appearance of not being interested in anyone, even if you really are, preferring to keep your feelings to yourself.  A relationship formed in secret may develop now. You may find yourself attracted to someone who you feel needs, someone you can save. There's not harm in having some fun, but beware of making yourself a into a martyr for a lost cause.

• How to Get Him: Libras are the diplomats of the zodiac, they can be wishy-washy and have trouble making decisions because they can easily both sides.  The best way to get a Libra is to support him through his decision-making prospect. Let him talk it out.  Give him encouragement and support his decision so that hey doesn't second guess himself. He'll be more confident and you'll have more fun. 

Taurus- The predictable bull refuses to step out of his comfort zone or try anything new in order to have more love and romance in their life. A friend could step up to the plate and introduce you to someone, and some trickery may even be involved depending on how stubborn you are.  Alternately, new romance could blossom between yourself and a friend. The Moon in Aries (General) 

Note: Last year, I didn't really cover the transits of the moon other than it's relationship to other planets and positions in the form of aspects. This year, I will be covering the Moon's journey through the zodiac at the rate of one sign per month in the natural order. 

The Moon travels make a full round through the zodiac once every 28 1/2 days spending about 2.5 days in each sign. It's mantra is I FEEL and some keywords associated with it include, but are not limited to, childhood, cycles, emotions, feelings, habits, home, change, instincts, mother, passive, subconscious. nurturing, and imagination. The Moon rules Cancer, is Exalted in Taurus, in fall in Scorpio, and Detriment in Capricorn (see essential dignity). 

When the Moon (I feel) is in Aries (I am) people feel more energetic, confident, and assertive. They can be more impatient and crave change. Since Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, this is a good time for beginning and to start new things.

A New Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon both occupy the same degree of the same sign at the same time. As you can see from the chart above both the Sun and Moon are transiting 4° Aquarius making this a new Moon. Whereas a full moon brings completion and endings a New Moon brings something new such as a new opportunity, a new relationship, a new project, or a new thought or idea. 

With a new moon transiting, or passing through, the area of the chart associated with friends, wishes, and hopes this could be a time when we find ourselves socializing more with others for either business or pleasure (networking). You could find yourself becoming interested in a new cause of humanitarian effort or you may be drawn to people who are perceived as unique, different, or unusual.

The Sun usually enters Aquarius just after the first of the year and so people are usually thinking about their futures, their wishes and their dreams. They may exhibit more original thoughts and ideas and many people will consider making plans for the future to make them so. This is also a time when we consider who we associate ourselves with and will think about surrounding ourselves with like-minded people who can help us achieve our wishes and dreams.

With the Sun in Aquarius and the 4th house you identify more with unconventional thoughts and ideas regarding your roots and your home as well. This may be a time when you rebel against ingrained thoughts and behaviors passed down to your from your family or roots which may not be healthy or which may not serve your goals in life and your wishes for the future. Instead you forge your own path adopting more progressive attitudes, thoughts, and ideas. 

The Sun Aquarius 4th house placement can also manifest as unusual changes occurring in or to your home.  For example, you could have a friend stay with you or you could stay with a friend. Alternately, you may make changes to your home that give it a unique and unusual look. 

Aspects 

The relationship between transiting planets and planets in one's natal chart is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. For example, in my own chart the Sun at 0° Aquarius is applying a conjunction to my Jupiter in 2° Aquarius. A conjunction is a type of aspect in which the energies of two planets become so blended that it is difficult to tell them apart.

When transit Jupiter makes a conjunction with your natal sun your personality becomes bigger, more jovial, and positive. You can be presented with new opportunities now and you have the confidence to make the most of them, if that is what you choose to do. 

Ruler of the House 

The 'ruler" of the house is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. In Astrology, the Sun rules Leo. The house Leo is in in your natal chart is the areas of life that will have an affect on the natal house that the Sun in Aquarius is transiting. For example, in my own chart, the Sun ruled Leo is in my 10th house of career, ambition, and public image. What this means is that activities associated with the 10th House will help fulfill the urge of the 4th house. 

Ruler of the 10th House in the 4th House 

The urge, or agenda, of the 4th house is to have strong roots, emotional security, and strong emotional ties. Activities associated with the 10th house including having success in your career, building a good reputation, have a good relationship with your bosses, mentors, or parents. 

When the ruler of the 10th house is in the 4th house it means that having a successful career, a good reputation, and positive relationships with your bosses, mentors and/or parents is vital for strengthening your roots, allowing greater emotional security, and strong family ties. 

This makes perfect sense to me because, as some of you may or may not know, I moved from South Carolina to Washington State in 2006. All my family is in South Carolina, so it is important to me that my family, and especially my mother (4th house) know that I am doing well in my life. My career, and my relationship with my boss (in my muggle job), allows me to have the security of being able to pay my bills, feed myself, and have a certain amount of satisfaction in my life to prove to my family that I am independent and able to take care of myself.

House Rulers in Astrology

What is a House Ruler?

There are 12 houses in Astrology which correspond to various areas of life or specific activities. These often line up with the 12 signs. In addition to the 12 houses, and the 12 signs, there are also 10 planets which move through them at various speeds With 12 houses, 12 signs, and 10 planets there are many combinations and they can be interpreted in a myriad of ways. Generally speaking the planets, signs and houses are interpreted in a specific way.

• Planets represent what is happening.
• Signs represent how it is happening.
• Houses represent where it is happening. 

For example, let's break down Venus in Scorpio and the 6th House. 

Venus + Scorpio + 6th House

                                         I love + passion and intensity + health and work

A person who has Venus in Scorpio and the 6th house could have a passionate desire to be healthy. They may want to be healthy, not only for the sake of health but also to be attractive and desirable. Venus is in detriment in Scorpio (meaning that is it weakened and has to work harder to fulfill it's urge) and Venus can sometimes be lazy so this person may also not always follow through with what they need to be healthy, attractive, and desirable. This can be a point of frustration for them.

To determine what planet rules a certain house, you look to the sign aligned with that house in the particular chart you are delineating. The planet that rules that sign, is also the planet that rules that house. The signs and the planets that rule them are as follows:

• Aries- Mars
• Taurus- Venus
• Gemini- Mercury
• Cancer- The Moon
• Leo- The Sun
• Virgo- Mercury
• Libra- Venus
• Scorpio- Mars / Pluto 
• Sagittarius- Jupiter 
• Capricorn- Saturn 
• Aquarius- Saturn / Uranus 
• Pisces- Jupiter / Neptune

Interpreting House Rulers

The planets are constantly moving and their relationship to the specific sign(s) they rule remains the same. For example, the Sun will always rule Leo, Mars will always rule Aries, etc. However, since the houses the planets occupy often change based on the ascendant, the houses which the planets rule often change as well. For instance, if Mercury is in the 5th house in a chart and Virgo is in 7th house, it is said that the ruler of the 7th house is in the 5th house.

What this means is that the activities of the 7th house will serve the urge of the 5th house. That is you may need a partner or some kind of partnership in order to fulfill your own sense of creativity. For example, let’s say that you want to work in comedy you might find greater success as part of team (like Abbot and Costello) rather than a solo act.

This may seem a little complicated. A good way to use rulers of X house in Y house is to look for empty houses in a chart. For example, if you have no planets in Pisces and the 5th house, then find where Neptune is transiting in the chart. If Neptune is in the 2nd house then you would interpret Neptune (I dream) in the second house (money and material matters) as having idealistic ideas about money, you may be very freehearted with your money or make money through creative ways. Next, apply that interpretation back to the 5th house meaning that you may experience some kind of idealism in the expression of your own creativity such as through art, music, hobbies, or whatever you do for fun.

Ruler of the Chart

The Chart Ruler or Ruler of the Chart is the planet which rules the Sign on the Ascendant in any given chart and it's interpretation is given a little more weight that other planets. For example, if you have Taurus on the Ascendant, this means that Venus is the Ruler of your Chart. The Chart Ruler is interpreted the same way as described above.

For instance, as in the example above with Taurus on the Ascendant let us say that Venus (your Chart Ruler) is in the 11th house. In this case the Ruler of the 1st house is said to be in the 11th house. What this means is that the activities of the 1st house (outer behavior, persona, ego) serve the agenda of the 11th house (friends, groups, ideals, humanitarianism)

Again, let's break this down for ease of interpretation

Ruler of the 1st House in the 11th House

I create my persona, appearance, and outer behavior through friends and groups.

You might say that your outer persona is created through your involvement with social or humanitarian causes or people who hold the same or similar interests as you. Your relationship with others determines how you act, behave, or present yourself to others. You feel more like yourself when you are share a common goal with others. For this reason you may find that in life you are oriented towards more working in groups. These are just a few interpretation of the ruler of the 1st house in the 11 house.

Mercury is said to be exalted in Aquarius, meaning that it is more powerful. When Mercury (I Think) is in Aquarius (I Know) people are, generally, more altruistic, rebellious, and detached. They may exhibit original thoughts and ideas and think more about the future. People are more likely to get involves in groups and causes, usually of a humanitarian nature.

For example, in my birth chart Mercury at 0° Aquarius is making is applying (approaching) a conjunction to my natal Jupiter at 4°Aquarius. A conjunction is a type of aspect wherein the energies of two (or more) planets become so blended that it is difficult to distinguish one from the other. 

When Jupiter (I expand) conjuncts (blends) with Mercury (I think) your thoughts, ideas and perspective is expanded. You may think more positive thoughts, in fact, you may have a hard time accepting or dealing with anything considered negative because you believe it will just "work out".  However, your mind is more receptive to thoughts, ideas, and information that helps you grow so this is a good time to learn something new. 

Ruler of the House 

The 'ruler" of the house is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. In Astrology, Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo so the houses that these signs are in in your natal chart are areas of life that will have an affect on the natal house that Mercury in Aquarius is transiting. 

For example, in my own chart Mercury ruled Virgo is in the the 11th house of friends and associates. So the area(s) of life represnets by the 11th house will help the urge of the 4th house. What this means is that my relationships with my friends and associated will have an effect on my sense of emotional well being and security.  This could also mean that your friends may feel more like family than your actual family.
