New Moon in Cancer

New Moon in Cancer

New Moons

A new moon occurs when both the Sun and the Moon occupy the same degree of the same sign of the zodiac at the same time. As you can see from the chart above the Sun and Moon both occupy 0° Cancer making this a new moon. New Moons bring new beginning and opportunities.

New Moon in Cancer

When the New Moon is in Cancer, people are generally more moody and emotions run deeper than usual They may isolate themselves in familiar surroundings and/or with close family to reflect on their emotions and nurture themselves.  Alternately, they may concern themselves more with the feelings of others and act in a more nurturing and motherly way towards them. People can open up more easily to close friends and family.

Generally people may feel more domestic and find themselves engaging more in domestic activities such as cooking, cleaning, and making the home a place of peace, serenity, and solace.  Once should avoid overeating now as you might be apt to be more lazy and thus gain weight.  The intuition is more acute now and is felt through the emotions so your initial feelings and impressions about people and things should be give more weight as this time.

Simply stated, the New Moon in Cancer will give you the opportunity to nurture some aspect of your life. To discover what area that would be, we look to the house that Cancer occupies in your Natal Chart.

The House is Where it Happens

The Astrological House in which the New Moon occurs in your Natal Chart gives an indication of the area of life activated by the New Moon and where you can expect to see the energy of the New Moon in Cancer to play out. Since the June New Moon occurs in 0° Cancer, you would look at your Natal, or Birth Chart to ascertain in what House 0° Cancer occurs.

The Twelve Houses of Life

  1. The self, ego, appearance, initiative, leadership, fresh starts and new beginnings.
  2. Money and material matters.  Your physical environment, income, money, and your sense of self-esteem.
  3. Communication in all its forms (thinking, writing, speaking, etc... ) as well as siblings, local travel, teachers and community events.
  4. Home, privacy, your basic sense of security, your mother, children, and your own ability to nurture others.
  5. Creative expression, drama, attention, love, and romance.
  6. Health and service to others. Your routine, diet, exercise and helpfulness to others.
  7. Marriage, partnerships, and relationships of all kinds.  Contracts, business deals, etc...
  8. Birth, death, sex, other people's money and property.
  9. Expansion, the higher mind, foreign matters (languages, cultures, travel) luck, adventure, risk, philosophy, ethics and morals.
  10. The public, fame, honors, reputation, awards, boundaries, rules, discipline, authority, the father.
  11. Groups of people such as friends and associations, networking, social justice.  Originality, sudden unexpected events, invention, surprises, and all things futuristic.
  12. Endings. Completion, tying up loose ends, old age, karma, making amends, and the afterlife. Imagination, creativity, poetry, and the subconscious mind.

Example

For example, let us say that your rising sign is Scorpio that would put the New Moon in your 9th house of expansion. With the New Moon in the 9th House you could be presented with opportunities to broaden your mind and expand your horizons. You could meet new people, do new things, explore new cultures, lifestyles, and perspectives.  You may feel more adventurous and daring. Spirituality may become more important to you, and you may re-visit your spiritual beliefs and practices. You may also get the opportunity to travel, if not, you can read about new and different places that appeal to you.

Moon in Leo 2020

Moon in Leo
May 26th, 2020  11:32 PM
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

Note: Last year, I didn't really cover the transits of the moon other than it's relationship to other planets and positions in the form of aspects. This year, I will be covering the Moon's journey through the zodiac at the rate of one sign per month in the natural order.

The Moon in Leo (General)

The Moon makes a full circuit through the zodiac once every 28 1/2 days spending about 2.5 days in each sign. It's mantra is I FEEL and some keywords associated with it include, but are not limited to, childhood, cycles, emotions, feelings, habits, home, change, instincts, mother, passive, subconscious. nurturing, and imagination. The Moon rules Cancer, is Exalted in Taurus, in fall in Scorpio, and Detriment in Capricorn (see essential dignity).

When the moon is in Leo, people are more social. They want to be creative and have fun. They want to go out more, see people and do things. They feel more romantic and are in the mood for love. They are not very interested in day to day responsibilities, but rather chose play over work. There can be danger of overindulgence now which should be carefully monitored. They may also seek out more attention from others in order to receive emotional satisfaction and fulfillment

Where Leo falls in your Birth Chart is the area of life where you will feel the ingress of the Moon in Leo.

  • If your rising sign is Aries, Leo is your 5th House.
  • If your rising sign is Taurus, Leo is your 4th House.
  • If your rising sign is Gemini, Leo is your 3rd House.
  • If your rising sign is Cancer, Leo is your 2nd House.
  • If your rising sign is Leo, Leo is your 1st House.
  • If your rising sign is Virgo, Leo is your 12th House.
  • If your rising sign is Libra, Leo is your 11th House.
  • If your rising sign is Scorpio, Leo is your 10th House.
  • If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Leo is your 9th House.
  • If your rising sign is Capricorn, Leo is your 8th House.
  • If your rising sign is Aquarius, Leo is your 7th House.
  • If your rising sign is Pisces, Leo is your 6th House.

Example

Moon in Leo and the 10th House

Here the urge to express your emotions occurs in the area of your career and the public and this manifests in a confident, affectionate, and dramatic manner.  You feel that you want to advance in life and so you look to make connections with all the right people. For this reason you may be a bit more of a show off so that you can prove grab the attention of people who share your goals and show your worth to them.

Aspects

Aspects are another dimension of astrological interpretation that can be considered. However, since the moon moves so quickly through the zodiac any aspects it makes to Natal Planets will be short lived. For example, let us suppose that you have Venus at 2° Scorpio, then that would mean that the transit Moon at 0° Leo is making a square to your Natal Venus. A square is a type of hard, or difficult, aspect in which the energy or urge of one planet is at odds with the energy or urge of another planet.

When the Moon forms a square to Venus you feel more vulnerable in social situations and require more reassurance. You can become more easily upset now which makes you irritable. You might experience problems with your lover or emotional upsets at home. This is not a good time for having fun.

How might  the ingress of the Moon in Leo manifest for you?

Your Moon, Your Mother, and You

Your Moon, Your Mother, and You

Today is Mother's Day in the USA and so we take the opportunity to look to Astrology to help us better understand our relationships to our mothers and mother-figures.

In the practice of Astrology, the moon is associated with not only our emotions but also our sense of nurturing. How we nurture ourselves, how we nurture others, and how others nurture us as well. The moon always connects to your mother in some way. For this reason, we look to our moon sign to get an idea of our relationship to our mothers, who are usually our primary caregivers.

By contrast we look to Saturn to learn more about our relationships to our fathers. Saturn is the disciplinarian of the zodiac and our fathers often fill this role in our early lives.

  • If your moon is in Aries, your mother was likely stubborn and bossy. She may have often pushed you into certain situations or patterns of behavior --- out of love --- to be more outgoing, independent, and free-thinking. The result of this is that you likely butted heads often with her as well.
  • If your moon is in Taurus, your mother was likely a very patient and determined woman. It is likely that she had good self-esteem and took care of herself, even if she was a bit materialistic. You, in turn, could have been a very demanding baby wanting the best of everything and learned the value of self-care and treating yourself well from her.
  • If your moon is in Gemini, your mother is probably a very energetic and active woman who didn't let the grass grow under her feet. She's chatty, sociable and open-minded...except when it comes to her child! There can be something of a disconnect between the two of you but that can be overcome with effort and compromise
  • If your moon is in Cancer, your mother is likely very emotional, sensitive, homebody.  You required a lot of love and attention growing up and your mother was there to give it to you sometimes at the expense of other household duties and chores.  As a result, you can be more dependent on others in life as opposed to be self-independent.
  • If your moon is in Leo, your mother is likely loud, brash, prideful and boastful.  She rarely holds herself in check and can be quite childish at times and so you learned this from her. As a result you and she can get into some pretty spectacular arguments in which neither of you backs down.
  • If your moon is in Virgo, chances are your mother is a critical, perfectionist. She most likely took care of all your needs well and, seeing this, you wanted more. As a result she likely felt like something of a failure as a mother on some level because she couldn't satisfy all your requirements.  It is likely that there is a certain amount of distance between the two of you in your relationship.
  • If your moon is in Libra, your mother likely has very good taste and looks put together every day without a hair out of place. In turn, it is important to her that you also look your best each day and she passed on to your the importance of who you know over what you knowShe did her best to treat you fairly and give your every benefit of the doubt.
  • If your moon is in Scorpio, your mother is likely attractive, intense, and mysterious. You may find yourself always wondering what she is thinking or feeling and she, in turn, always seems to know exactly what you are feeling and thinking. As a result issues of privacy may be a concern  between the two of you. You may find that you want to open up to her on an emotional level but you also want to keep some of your secrets too.
  • If your moon is in Sagittarius, your mother is smart, independent, and worldly.  She tried her best to pass these qualities on to you and so it was likely difficult to raise someone who is as independent and know-it-all as you. Chances are she held you to a higher standard that she had for herself which inspired you to have a broader world view and a natural wisdom.
  • If your moon is in Capricorn, your mother is likely conservative, formal and somewhat cold. While she take care of your physical needs such as food, clothing, and shelter; you may have felt that she lacked in fulfilling your emotional ones. As a result you felt more like the mother and she the child. As a result you had to grow up fast and more than likely adopted her responsible, goal-oriented outlook.
  • If your moon is in Aquarius, your mother is likely quirky, unconventional, and altruistic. She probably introduced you to unusual things early in life and so you grew up feeling different. At time it may have seemed that she was more interested in the bigger picture of life and people in general rather than this little person she created. As a result there may be a bit of emotional distance between the two of you.
  • If your moon is in Pisces, your mother is likely introverted, sensitive and self-sacrificing.  Giving so much of herself can be overwhelming as she would rather shrink into a dream world of her own imagination. Perhaps out of guilt, you try to shield her from your problems and not burden her with them and, as a result you developed a certain emotional strength.
