Neptune Retrograde in Pisces  (General) 

Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces, so it is at home in this sign. It will station retrograde today and will not station direct again until November 29th. Neptune stations retrograde about once a year and it lasts for about 5-6 month each time. Neptune is classified as a generational planet, that is it moves so slowly are generally so subtle as to be unnoticeable -- unless Neptune makes any major aspects to your natal planets. Again, because Neptune moves so slowly any aspects it makes to your natal planets can last for many years, which gives them great importance. 

Neptune is the planet of illusions and refinement. When it is moving direct, Neptune can make it seem like we are looking at everything through a fog or as if underwater. However, when Neptune stations retrograde those illusions are shattered and we begin to see things as they really are not as we wish them to be nor as others would have us believe.

An opposition is a type of aspect in which the energy or urge of one planet is pulling away from the energy or urge of another planets. These urges feel as if the other is doing something to do and each lacks the power to do anything about it.

When Neptune is in opposition to the Sun you have a hard time being yourself or you may have a hard time accepting some part of who you are. You may feel pressured by someone to be or act in a way that is difficult for you. You may feel victimized or have a harder time standing up for yourself or making decisions for yourself.

Neptune is the second to last planet in our solar system. It takes about 165 years to complete  a full circuit through the zodiac and spends roughly 14 years in each sign. It goes retrograde once a year and it's retrograde period last anywhere from 4 to 5 months each time. 

In 2019 Neptune goes retrograde on June 21st in 18° 43 Pisces at 1:37 PM (Pacific Time) and will not station direct (i.e. move forward) again until November 27th.

Neptune's mantra is I dream and it represents the urge to escape the mundane and ordinary. Neptune in known as the Great Dissolver, it is associated with dreams, perceptions, imagination and our creativity. Because Neptune is one of the generational planets (meaning that it is so far out in the solar system and moves so slowly) its affect on us is not as severe and the faster mover planets such as Mercury.   

When Neptune is in Pisces people are more compassionate, withdrawn, intuitive, and sympathetic to others. People are more apt to lose themselves into their spirituality or their sense of spirituality. There is a tendency to lend aid to others but only as far as one can retain a certain amount of anonymity. People prefer to work behind the scenes and avoid the spotlight. 

However, when Neptune is in retrograde it forces you to turn around and face your doubts and fears. All the compassion and sympathy you have for others and the desire to help them should now be directed to yourself. Just like the Hanged Man above you need to look at things from a new perspective, face the reality of your life and release any illusions you may have. It may be somewhat painful to face down our illusion but just like the Hanged Man in the picture above it looks more painful than it actually is and, if done successfully, you will grow and prosper from the experience.
