Mercury Retrograde - Post Shadow

Mercury Retrograde

The Post-Shadow

As you may have heard, Mercury has been in retrograde for the last three weeks. You can read more about that here and here. As of about 6:59 am this morning (Pacific Time), Mercury has stationed direct meaning he is now moving forward again. However, this also means that we are in the post-shadow period which follows mercury retrograde.

Simply speaking the post-shadow period of Mercury Retrograde is that period of time between the moment it stations direct and it reaches the exact point in the zodiac where it originally went retrograde. For example, Mercury went retrograde on March 5th at 10:19 am in 29 degrees Pisces. It stationed direct (i.e. started moving forward) on March 28th, at 6:59 am in 16 Degrees Pisces. Therefore the shadow period will last until Mercury reaches 29 degree Pisces again in about three weeks time.

Just like when you get in your car to drive somewhere, your speed is not constant. The speed of your vehicle is constantly shifting, slowing down, stopping, and speeding up again. In like fashion, Mercury's speed is not constant. Mercury usually moves at about 2 degrees per day, however, during the post shadow period is may move only about 1 degree (or less) per day and will pick up speed as the days go on.

The post-shadow period of Mercury Retrograde is characterized as a period in which those issues raised during Mercury Retrograde are still present but may  be winding down, that is, they are still present but not as intense as before.  During Mercury Retrograde, we refrained from making any major decisions or changes. Instead we are told to RE-lax, RE-evaluate, RE-assess our issues and conditions. During this post shadow phase is where we begin to act by changing our thoughts, or words and our actions regarding those issues and conditions that were raised during Mercury Retrograde.

I will cover the pre-shadow in another blog post later this year shortly before the next Mercury Retrograde.

Working the Root: When Mercury stations direct, I typically light a yellow candle dressed with road opener oil to smooth the way for moving forward in my life.
