The Astrology of Luck

With St. Patrick's day tomorrow, our thoughts turn to the idea of luck --- good luck, bad luck and how to shift fortune into our favor. In any discussion of luck in the astrological chart, we look to the planet Jupiter. 

Jupiter is known as the planet of expansion and luck. It rules Sagittarius; is in detriment in Gemini; exalted in Libra; and fall in Aries. (see essential dignity). 

Keywords associated with Jupiter include, but are not limited to: expansion, plenty, abundance, chance, cheerful, education, faith, gambling, growth, self-betterment, hope, luck, optimism, philosophy, religion, truth, success and wisdom.  

Where Jupiter falls in your natal, or birth chart will given an indication of the source of luck in your life; and if it falls in one of the angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th) , the affects of Jupiter becomes even more powerful. For example: 

• If Jupiter is in your 1st house you tend to me proactive and make your own luck.
• If Jupiter is in your 4th house your luck comes from your home and family. 
• If Jupiter is in your 7th house, your luck comes to you through your relationships of all kinds (business or professional). 
• If Jupiter is in your 10th house, your luck come through your career and reputation. 

Jupiter takes about 12 years to travel through the zodiac and so it stays in each sign for approximately one year.  As of this writing, Jupiter is currently transiting, or moving through, the fiery-mutable sign of Sagittarius and will move into Capricorn around December 2nd, 2019. 

Astrologically, Jupiter rules Sagittarius meaning that its power is enhanced and therefore stronger and more powerful. When Jupiter is in Sagittarius people are generally more tolerant, good natured, optimistic, liberal-minded, humane, and are interested in matters of religion, the law, justice, and compassion.  

To understand what area of life you will be lucky in 2019, look at what house Sagittarius falls in your natal chart. For example:

• If Aries is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 9th house. 
• If Taurus is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 8th house.
• If Gemini is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 7th house.
• If Cancer is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 6th house.
• If Leo is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 5th house.
• If Virgo is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 4th house.
• If Libra is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 3rd house.
• If Scorpio is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 2nd house.
• If Sagittarius is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 1st house.
• If Capricorn is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 12th house.
• If Aquarius is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 11th house.
• If Pisces is your rising sign, Sagittarius in your 10th house. 

The area of life associated with the natal house Jupiter is transiting will given an indication of those areas of life in which you will be lucky. For example, my rising sign is Scorpio which means that Jupiter is transiting my 2nd house which is associated with money, material matters, and personal values to name a few. 

Therefore for me, 2019 I will be lucky in matters of money. I may feel rich even though my bank-account may not reflect big numbers. Investments are likely to be successful and my personal values will steer me in the right direction.  The negative aspect of Transit Jupiter in the 2nd house is being to self-satisfied, expecting something for nothing, resting on one's laurels, and laziness.
