Astrology & the Law of Attraction

What is the Law of Attraction?

The Law of Attraction (LOA) is the belief that your thoughts manifest things, people, and experiences to yourself. Simply stated, what you dwell on inwardly you manifest outwardly; what you speak, you create; what you think about, is invited into your life. The belief that our thoughts are the building blocks of the universe, and therefore, our lives can be found in many philosophies and ideologies. For example, the Bible states in Proverbs 23:07 "as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he."

In the religion of Wicca, Traditional Witchcraft, and other new age practices the belief in affirmations and creative visualization, which in and of themselves are different forms of thought, follows that idea that like attracts like. For example, a person repeats to themselves "I am prosperous" and they attract money, or another person visualizes a tumor getting smaller and smaller and suddenly the doctor advises them it has disappeared completely.

In order to attract our desires we must first define what it is that we want to be, do, or have. The process of deciding what we want to be, do, or have and then setting about being it, doing it, and having it is called setting one's intention(s).

As Above, So Below: Astrology & the Law of Attraction

Astrologers are accustomed to tracking the motion of the planets to divine future trends and possibilities. They are able to do this because astrologers throughout history before them have observed the motion of the planets and have drawn a correlation between astrological events such as the planets in certain signs and or houses as well as the pattern formed between the planets (called aspects) and events in the world at large and in our individual lives.

Magical practitioners have also learned to harness the energy of these patterns by performing their spells and rituals at certain auspicious times. For example, working by the moon, a magical practitioner may perform a spell to draw a new love on a Friday during the New Moon because Fridays are associated with Venus, planet of love, and the new moon is good for new beginning and drawing new things into our lives.

Professional astrologers can take this concept a step further to elect the best time for a certain goal or endeavor. Such an astrologer might check the current / future motion of the planets against your birth chart and see that Venus will be conjunct your natal Sun in the 5th house and augur that you are likely to meet someone during this time who could become a romantic love interest. Knowing this possibility exists, you might perform a spell during this time to put the odds in your favor.

You don't have to be a professional astrologer to use astrology to manifest your dreams. You can use the philosophy of the law of attraction and the science of astrology together simply by tracking the sign the moon is moving through, or transiting, at any given time to set your intention(s) and manifest your goals. It takes the moon roughly 28 1/2 days to pass through the twelve signs of the zodiac.

The Four Elements

  • Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) When the Moon is in a Fire Sign you are more inspired to create positive changes in your life and you have the energy to devote to your goals.
  • Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) When the moon in in an Earth Sign you are more patient and stable. You have more determination and are able to cope with setbacks or obstacles.
  • Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) When the moon is in an Air Sign, you take a more mental approach to achieving goals. This is a good time to review and/or edit your spiritual plan, make lists or goals and intentions, or practice your affirmations.
  • Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) When the Moon is in a Water Sign you are more emotionally attached to your intentions. You feel things more deeply and so this is a good time to take an emotionally approach to finding your own success.
The Three Modalities

  • Cardinal Signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) When the moon is in a cardinal sign, you are more proactive. You are not only ready to seek out change and make things happen but you also have the energy to match your ambitious.
  • Fixed Signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) When the moon is in a fixed sign you are more stubborn and have more determination. This is a good time for improving upon what you are already doing to achieve your goals.
  • Mutable (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) When the moon is in a mutable sign you are more adaptable and roll with the punches so to speak. If you've been considering changing your tactics in terms of your spiritual plan of action, this is a good time to adjust your course.
The Moon in the Signs and Houses of Astrology

The Moon in Aries or the 1st House

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and it rules the head (including the brain). Aries represents the archetype of the pioneer or explorer. When the moon is in Aries this is a good time for beginnings, for exploring your mind and thinking about what it is that you want to be, do or have. The keyword for Aries is I am and, according to the LOA, anything we put after I am will manifest. For example, I am beautiful. I am rich. I am healthy. Sit in a quiet place, you can light a candle and incense or put on some soothing music. Go into a meditative state and say to yourself I am and then just allow yourself to fill in that blank by saying the first words that come to your mind. Try to keep it positive and remember you're just exploring your options right now.

The Moon in Taurus or the Second House

Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac and it is the first sign categorized as fixed. Generally speaking, fixed signs are stubborn and persistent. The keyword for Taurus is I have. Now is the time to settle on a few I am statements and fix it in your mind that you can have what it that you want to have, you can be what it is that you want to be, you can do what it is that you want to do. Taurus rules the neck, including the throat and the throat-chakra. Now you will repeat your I am statement to yourself and then immediately swallow. When you swallow you are activating your throat chakra and absorbing the energy of your words into your being. That is, you are accepting the idea that all that you desire is not only possible but that it is inevitable. Incidentally, the throat chakra is associated with wishes.

The Moon in Gemini or the Third House

The keyword for Gemini is I communicate and it is ruled by Mercury. This sign is all about how we process and exchange information. You've already communicated your desires to yourself verbally but now you will write them down. Again, you may wish to make a ritual out of the act of writing down your intentions. You may set the mood by dimming the lights, lighting some candles dressed with condition oils that correspond to your goals, or a general one such as Attraction Oil, put on some meditative music. Next you will write a list of your goals or a list of I am statements on a piece of paper. If you desire, you can write your intentions in a special diary or book. A list of goals or intentions becomes a contract with your spirit and confirms that you are committed to making your dreams come true. One study has also found that when people write down their goals they are more likely to come to pass.

The Moon in Cancer or the Fourth House

Cancer is the first water sign and it is associated with our feelings. The moon rules Cancer so it is especially strong here. When the moon is in Cancer it is a good time to get in touch with your feelings about your goals and intentions. This is a good time to take out your wish list or book of intentions and read over them. Do this slowly and as you read them imagine how you will feel when they come to pass. You want to actually fill yourself with the feelings of accomplishment and experience the emotions you would feel when your dreams come true. It has been observed that the mind cannot distinguish between what is imagined and what is real. One way to help summon the necessary emotion is to visualize your desire as if it has come to pass. If you find it hard to visualize then simply use your imagination.

The Moon in Leo or the Fifth House

Leo is ruled by the Sun and it is associated with drama, creativity, and the arts. Up until now, you have used two of your three God-given gifts. They are: thoughts and words. Now you will use the third gift which is deeds. When the moon is in Leo, this is a good time for acting in accordance with your thoughts and beliefs. Some people call this "fake it till you make it". For example, if you want to be rich, spend money; if you want to lose weight, eat healthy and exercise; if you want to meet a new lover, go where the people are.

The Moon in Virgo or the Sixth House

Virgo is the second earth sign, behind Taurus, and it is one of four mutable signs along with Gemini, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Mutable signs are known for their adaptability and Virgo represents the archetype of the analyst. There's a reason that "anal" is in analyst, Virgos are perfectionist concerned with details so they make good editors. When the moon is in Virgo it is a good time to edit, refine, or otherwise improve your spiritual plan. Spend some time thinking about how you can think better, speak better, and do better concerning the attainment of your goals. You might want to take out a fresh piece of paper and re-write your intention list and burn the old one. You might also want to think about how you can accomplish your goals by changing your actions or how you approach certain situations.

The Moon in Libra or the Seventh House

Libra is the 7th sign of the zodiac and it's keyword is I balance. Because Libras represent the archetype of the diplomat, they can be vacillating and wishy-washy but often keep an open-mind. When the moon is in Libra, you may find yourself doubting yourself, doubting the process, or doubting your ability to make your wishes work. When this occurs, it is important that you surround yourself with people who are supportive of you and your goals. If there isn't anyone close you can open up to for encouragement then now is the time to be your own advocate, your own cheerleader, and your own mentor. Give yourself a pep-talk, re-read your intention list and imagine what you will feel like when you are successful. It is important now that you expose yourself to others through books, websites, and youtube videos and allow their success with the law of attraction to inspire you.

The Moon in Scorpio or the Eighth House

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, the planet of powerful transformation and its keyword is I desire. In Greek mythology, Pluto is the King of the Underworld a gloomy place of death and rebirth. People often fear change and it is not unusual for people to actually fear having their wishes come true, to fear having more power in their life, or to fear being totally responsible for the course and quality of their lives. Now is the time to allow your doubts and fears to die away and the best way to do this is by owning your own power by facing your fears head on. When that tiny voice in your head speaks up saying "what if"; "what if I make a lot of money and have to pay more taxes", "what if I go out and get a flat tire", "what if meet someone special and they hurt me in the end?" Then you reply back to that little voice with two magic words. They are: "so what?". Say to yourself "so what, I'll deal with it". Something that "might happen" has an equal chance of "might not happening" in your mind. Shift your focus to the positive. Be afraid, but move forward anyway.

The Moon in Sagittarius or the Ninth House

Sagittarius is the 9th sign of the zodiac and it is one of three fire signs along with Aries and Leo. It is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of luck and expansion. Sagittarius represents the archetype of the Teacher, Mentor, or Truth Seeker. When the moon is in Sagittarius you might begin to feel more optimistic and want more freedom. The keyword for Sagittarius is I see and when the moon is transiting this fiery sign you feel more comfortable getting out of your comfort zone. Having learned to overcome your fears when the moon transitioned Scorpio, now is a good time to push past your personal boundaries and limitations.

The Moon in Capricorn or the Tenth House

Capricorn is the last earth sign behind Taurus and Virgo. It is ruled by Saturn the planet of responsibility and discipline and it's keyword is I use. When the moon is in Capricorn you may wish to live a more intentional life. You are more aware of your own power now and you want to use it more responsibly. When the moon is in Capricorn it is a good time for reviewing how your thoughts, words and deeds in the past have lead you to where you are now --- for good or bad. By recognizing the correlation between choices and consequences, or cause and effect it reinforces the belief or idea that you are in control of your life and that you must exercise discipline and responsibility in how you wield your power. You might want to read over your intention list now and think about the consequences of your goals coming to pass.

The Moon in Aquarius or the Eleventh House

Aquarius is the 11th sign of the zodiac. It is ruled by Uranus, the planet of rebellion and it's keyword is I know. Aquarius represents the archetype of the genius or inventor. When the moon is in Aquarius, you might feel like rebelling against what you have been taught, to forge your own path, to come up with new ways of thinking and doing things. In terms of the law of attraction, the moon in Aquarius says to get something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done. Inventors and scientists work by trial and error and so they often fail before they succeed. However they are able to learn from their mistakes, adapt and overcome. When the moon is in Aquarius it is a good time to experiment with new and different way to attract what you desire.

The Moon in Pisces or the Twelfth House

Pisces is the 12th and final sign of the zodiac. It is a water-mutable sign ruled by Neptune the planet of refinement and its keyword is I believe. When the moon is in Pisces, it is a good time to refine or adapt your beliefs about yourself, your beliefs about what you want to be, your beliefs about what you want to do, and your beliefs about what you want to have. Pisces represent the archetype of the intuitive introvert so this is a good time to draw into yourself and get in touch with your intuition and feelings about your goals and aspirations. If you practice any form of divination this is a favorable time to performing a divination about your goals. Since Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, it is also associated with endings and this would also be a good time for putting the finishing touches, or taking the final steps towards achieving your goals or choosing now to pursue a certain goal for any number of reasons.

Short-Term Vs Long-Term Goals

It takes the moon approximately 28 days to transit, or pass through, the 12 signs. For short range goals, you can track the moon through the signs. However, for more long-term goals you can track the movement of the Sun through the signs which takes about one year or one sign every 30 days. The descriptions for the sun in the signs is the same as those for the moon through the signs given above.
