The Composite Chart

The Composite Chart

A Chart of the Relationship

With Valentine's Day around the corner, many people are thinking about love. While some people are concerned about drawing new love, others are thinking about their existing relationships. They may be thinking about taking a causal relationship to a new level of commitment, they may be asking if they are compatible with their lover or if their special someone is the one. Alternately, they may be questioning whether the relationship is worth continuing or if it is time for a clean break and allow both parties to go their separate ways.

In these cases a lot of people look to synastry, which is one way of comparing two charts for romantic and sexual compatibility. For example, the below chart represents the synastry between two individuals. The inner circle is the birth chart of one individual and the outer circle is the second person's birth chart.

In a Synastry Chart there are a few things that an astrologer will look at to determine compatibility such as aspects between the Suns, the Moons, the Sun and the Ascendant, the Moon and the Ascendant, and the aspects between Venus and Mars.

In addition to the Synastry Chart, there is the Composite Chart. The Composite Chart is a chart of  the midpoints between the planets in one chart and the planets in another. Where does my Sun meet your Sun in the middle? My moon and your moon? My Mercury and your Mercury and so forth and so on. The Midpoints are calculated using a complex mathematical formula. Luckily there are websites such as astro that will do it for you. For example, below is the Composite Chart of the same two individuals as in the above Synastry Chart.

Interpreting the Composite Chart

The Composite chart merges two individual's birth charts into one and as such is no longer a chart of the two individuals but rather is a chart of the relationship itself and it is interpreted as such. The planets are read according to the astrological house they occupy.

Below you will find short, pithy descriptions of what the planets and houses represent in a composite chart. Use these in conjunction with your astrological keywords (change your "I" statements to "We" statements") to help you interpret your composite chart.

The Planets of Astrology

  • The Sun- the sun represents the purpose of the relationship and can indicate the types of problems they couple will face and have to overcome.
  • The Moon- the moon represents how you relate to one another emotionally and what is needed in order to feel nurtured and emotionally secure in the relationship.
  • Mercury- mercury represents how you connect mentally with one another, how you communicate and understand one another.
  • Venus- venus represents how you show your affection for one another, and how you express your feelings of love and romance.
  • Mars- mars represents where you are driven within the relationship.
  • Jupiter- jupiter represents areas for potential growth within the relationship, and where being together is favorable for the couple.
  • Saturn- saturn represents areas of limitation and difficulty in the relationship which can inhibit growth.
  • Uranus- uranus represents areas where you need change and excitement in the relationship.
  • Neptune- Neptune represents areas of confusion in the relationship where you may not be perceiving things as they are but rather as you wish them to be.
  • Pluto- pluto represents areas in the relationship where power plays take place.

The Houses of Astrology

  1. The first house represents how the couple met and / or what type of couple they are. Are they the fun couple, the sporty couple?
  2. The second house represents your shared personal values, as well as your attitudes about money and security.
  3. The third house represents how you communicate with one another as a couple and how you relate to one another on a day-to-day basis.
  4. The fourth house represents how you connect to another on an emotional level and how you build your relationship up on that connection.
  5. The fifth house represents the types of activities you do together for fun as well as how you express your affection for one another.
  6. The sixth house represents how well, or not, you work together, and your daily activities in the mundane.
  7. The seventh house represents how you come together as a couple as well as how you interact with other people as a couple.
  8. The eight house represents how you connect with each other in an intimate way as well as how you use your shared resources.
  9. The ninth house represents how you experience the exploration of the world around you together and grow from your experiences.
  10. The tenth house represents how you present yourself to the world at large and the goals that you work on or hope to achieve together.
  11. The eleventh house represents the groups you become involved with together and any causes you may work towards.
  12. The twelfth house represents endings and can indicate areas of the relationship that is hidden or within the subconscious as well as the any shared baggage that needs to be released.

Examples

Here are a few example of composite planets in the houses.

  1. Composite Venus in the 5th House -Composite Venus in the 5th house can indicate that this is a couple who really likes one another and enjoys each others company. They may spend a great deal of time together on shared hobbies, socializing with others, or attending parties, movies, parties, or other entertaining activities.
  2. Composite Mars in the 8th House -Composite Mars in the 8th House can indicate a relationship in which sex and sexual fulfillment is of great importance. This is couple who is quite sexually active and in which sex is used as an outlet to soothe mutual aggressions. Since this house also rules shared resources, it can indicate conflicts and arguments over money.

Other Considerations

In addition to the planets in the houses, an astrologer will look at the aspects, or relationships between the planets in the composite chart. The aspects between the planets in the composite chart bring an added dimension to the interpretation of the chart.

Other considerations include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Composite North Node
  • Aspects to the North Node
  • Composite Ascendant
  • Planets in Signs

Full Moon in Leo 2020

Full Moon in Leo
2/8/2020   11:33 PM
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

A Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon occupy the same degree of opposite signs of the zodiac.  As you can see from the chart above, the Moon is at 20° Leo and the Sun is at 20° Aquarius forming an opposition creating a dynamic of challenging one another; something is being split or divided. This also being a Lunar Eclipse, the effects are pretty much the same but only stronger. However, as the eclipse subsides the opportunity for healing and balance will return. The Lunar Eclipse acts like a reset button on our emotions.

The Big Picture

Leo is a proud, possessive, and territorial sign; while Aquarius is detached and altruistic.  So we have a dynamic here of Me vs. Them or what I want in opposition to what we need.  Full Moons are thought to bring completion or endings and with the possessiveness of that Leo energy at play here this can sometimes feel like someone is taking something away from us, or depriving us of something.  This is a pattern we can see play out or a large scale by watching the news, paying attention to what is going on on social media and in the lives of our family and friends; or on a small scale by examining our own natal charts to see where the Full Moon is taking place there.

How to Work with Full Moon in Leo Energy

  • exercise more self-confidence
  • work on building greater self-esteem
  • show more pride in yourself and celebrate your accomplishments
  • learn to relax and have more fun
  • go to the movies or see a play
  • show more affection (where and when it is welcome)
  • have mind-blowing sex
  • spend some time on your hobbies or start a new one.
  • get in touch with your inner child
  • channel your inner-artist and be more creativity.
  • go out with friends and be more sociable

The Personal Touch

To understand how the Full Moon in Leo affects us an individuals we need to see where 20° Leo is in our own natal charts.  For example, 20° Leo in my natal chart is on the cusp of the 10th House, which is known as the public sector of our charts. One-hundred and eighty degrees across from the 10th house is the 4th house where the Sun is transiting at 20° Aquarius.  Let's break it down....

Moon + Leo + 10th House

I feel proud and possessive of my career and reputation

VS.

Sun + Aquarius + 4th House

I am rebellious, detached, and altruistic about my home and traditions

With the 10th house vs 4th house dynamic at play, I may feel a divide between my public and private aspects of my life. It could indicate that career and reputation is at odds with my root sand traditions. This is interesting because as I write this I have recently found that someone has attempted to steal Carolina Conjure from me and set themselves up in their own business with a facebook page and a website. At first, I tried to handle the matter privately but I was forced to appeal to my friends and fans to ask that the page be reported.

Aspects

Aspects, or relationships between planets, is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. For example, in my own chart the transit moon at 20° Leo is making a sextile to my Natal Uranus at 21° Libra.

A sextile in a type of soft (easy) aspect in which the energy of one planet supports or coaxes the urge of the other and it is aid to bring opportunities. Usually the slower planets has the affect on the faster planet. Let us use our keywords to discover how Transit Moon sextile Natal Uranus might manifest.

Natal Uranus Sextile Transit Full Moon

I rebel supports and coaxes I feel

When transit Uranus sextiles the Moon you feel like breaking out of your routine. You want to do things that are different and new. You feel more confident in your individuality and not only are you comfortable standing out from the crowd, the last thing you want to do right now is to blend in with the crowd.

Venus in Aries Feb 2020

Venus in Aries
2/7/20 12:02 PM PDT
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

Venus in Aries (General)

When Venus is in Aries, emotions expressed more aggressively so people are generally more affectionate and extravagant. However, Venus is said to be in detriment in Aries (see essential dignity) that is, its energy is diminished. So whereas people are more affectionate they may not be so lucky in the area of love and romance.

How Venus in Aries Affects You

A planet, such as Venus, describes a specific type of energy. In the case of Venus it is the energy of love. The sign that it occupies indicates how that energy manifests. Venus in Aries can manifest as aggressive and fearless expressions of love and attraction. You can either be the aggressor or the object of such assertiveness.  Finally the house that the planet transits will determine where this energy will manifest in your life. In order to determine the house that Venus in Aries is transiting you look at your birth chart and determine what house aligns with Aries. For example.

  • If your rising sign is Aries, Aries is your 1st  House
  • If your rising sign is Taurus, Aries is your 12th House
  • If your rising sign is Gemini, Aries is your 11th House
  • If your rising sign is Cancer, Aries is your 10th House
  • If your rising sign is Leo, Aries is your 9th House
  • If your rising sign is Virgo, Aries is your 8th House
  • If your rising sign is Libra, Aries is your 7th House
  • If your rising sign is Scorpio, Aries is your 6th House
  • If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Aries is your 5th House
  • If your rising sign is Capricorn, Aries is your 4th House
  • If your rising sign is Aquarius, Aries is your 3rd House
  • If your rising sign is Pisces, Aries is your 2nd House

Example
Venus in Aries and the 6th House

I love + I Am + health and work

Venus (I Love) in Aries (I AM) in the 6th house of health and work can manifest as assertive expressions of love and attraction and this would likely take place in your workplace. Again, you could be the aggressor or the object of another person's interest. You could meet someone through your work or it could be a co-worker. However, with Venus being in detriment in Aries things could just be off or it could not be the right time and so things are not likely to work out.

The sixth house is naturally aligned with Virgo and so you will not fall for anyone too easily. You may adopt the same attitude towards romantic relationships that you take to finding a job.  You may find yourself being critical of anyone who shows interest in you, assessing them to determine that they pass your inspection and meet your criteria.

Since the 6th house rules over health and work, this can be a period of time in which you are more energetic and impatient in terms of how you do your work and go about your daily routine. You can also renew your effort to get healthier by giving more attention, interest, and enerty to your diet and exercise routine.

Aspects

Aspects, or relationships between planets is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. For example, Venus at 0° Aries is applying a square to my Saturn at 3° Cancer. A square is a type of aspect in which creates tension between the urges of two planets. Since the slower planet ususally makes the greater impact on the faster planet, let us break it down like so.

Natal Saturn Square Transit Venus

I achieve + tension + I love

Saturn casts a gloomy mood over Venus, and you can be more cynical about love now. However, Saturn can also let you see your relationships more as they are and less than the way you want them to be. If you have a partner, communciation with him or her can be difficult now and you may find yourself having arguements or disagreements. This may be necessary, however, to air your respective grievances so that they can be dealt with and not allowed to fester. Venus just wants to have relax, have fun, and be comfortable but with Saturn making a square to it you may not be able to feel relaxed or comfortable. You may feel that you have too many responsibilities. You'll have to put in more of an effort to get along with anyone who can hold your accountable for your obligations and responsibilities.

Ruler of the House

What house(s) does Venus rule in your chart? Venus rules both Taurus and Libra, so the houses that these signs are in in your Natal Chart represent the areas of life that will be be affected by Venus in Aries. For example, in my chart Taurus is in the 7th house and Aries is in my 6th. In this case, you would say that the ruler of the 7th House is in the 6th House. Let's disect this statement.

  • Ruler of the 7th House in the 6th House
  • The activities of the 7th house serve the urge of the 6th House
  • Relationships, cooperation, and agreements service daily habits, routine, health, and work

Next, we take this statement and extrapolate on it. With the ruler of the 7th house in the sixth house you can improve your working environment by practicing more cooperation and compromise. You work more efficiently with a partner. You allow your working partner to take the lead and have the spotlight. A similar dynamic would also be valid in terms of your heath. In order to get healthier you may need to find a workout partner, or you may need to join a gym and obtain the services of a trainer to guide you (the 7th house rules contracts). Alternatly, you may need to find someone on the same diet and or exercise program as you and share recipes, exercises, tips and tricks in addition to giving one another emotional encouragment and support.

How will the ingress of Venus into Aries manifest for you?

Mercury in Pisces Feb 2020

Mercury in Pisces
2/3/20 3:37 AM
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

Mercury in Pisces (General)

Mercury is said to be in detriment in Pisces. A planet is in detriment when a planet is in the sign opposite of it's rulership. Mercury rules Virgo (and Gemini) and Pisces is six signs away (or opposite) Virgo. Detriment is a term that describes the condition of a planet in a sign. When a planet is in detriment it means that a planet is cut off from it's resources and will have to adapt in order to reach it's full potential. The keyword for detriment is diminished

Mercury is the planet of the mind. It is all about logic, our thinking, and communication. Pisces, being a water-sign, is emotionally based, dreamy, and intuitive.  So when Mercury is in Pisces, our thoughts are at odds with our emotions. You may feel caught up in your feelings. Communication proves to be more difficult. You can be more sensitive at this time and and find yourself being ruled by your emotions. You may also find yourself in danger of emotional outburst in which you blurt our your feelings without stopping to consider what you are saying.

The upside to Mercury in Pisces is that you can use this energy to get in touch your with your feelings and emotions. Your imagination is enhanced and you can be more creative and artsy at this time. This is also a good time to practice and refine your intuitive faculties. If you are interested in any metaphysical subjects such as Astrology and Tarot, this is a good time to start learning.

Where Pisces falls in your Natal Chart is the area of life where you will have vague, romantic, and intuitive thoughts.

  • If your rising sign is Aries, Pisces is your 12th House.
  • If your rising sign is Taurus, Pisces is your 11th House.
  • If your rising sign is Gemini, Pisces is your 10th House.
  • If your rising sign is Cancer, Pisces is your 9th House.
  • If your rising sign is Leo, Pisces is your 8th House.
  • If your rising sign is Virgo, Pisces is your 7th House.
  • If your rising sign is Libra, Pisces is your 6th House.
  • If your rising sign is Scorpio, Pisces is your 5th House.
  • If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Pisces is your 4th House.
  • If your rising sign is Capricorn, Pisces is your 3rd House.
  • If your rising sign is Aquarius, Pisces is your 2nd House.
  • If your rising sign is Pisces, Pisces is your 1st House.

Example

Mercury + Pisces + 5th House

I have romantic thoughts about love

Mercury in Pisces and the 5th house of love, children, and creativity manifests as vague, romantic thoughts regarding love and romance. The mind can become clouded by feelings of love and romance with this placement making the native susceptible to deception by others, especially those that he or she cares about. You are more sensitive and have trouble defining not only your feelings but the feelings and emotions of those around you.

Nonetheless, the fifth house rules creativity (including our hobbies) and with Mercury transiting the fifth house you can more easily attune yourself to your own sense of creativity. Your hobbies bring your more satisfaction, you (re)discover yourself as an artist and visionary. You are more social and want to have more fun. The fifth house also rules over children -- if you are a parent conversations with your children can be deeper and more loving.  In terms of love, Mercury transiting the fifth house can portend meeting a romantic interest through the internet (mercury rules communication) and that he or she could either be younger than you (in age) or simply young at heart.

Aspects

Aspects, or relationships between planets, is another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be considered. For example, in my own chart Transit Mercury at 0° Pisces is applying a Trine to my Natal Venus at 2°Scorpio. A trine is a type of aspect in which the energy or urge of one planet is supportive of the urge of another planet. Since the slower planet usually has the greater affect on the faster planet we would read this as Natal Venus Trine Transit Mercury. Let's break it down ...

Venus Trine Mercury

I Love supports I Think

Venus making a trine to Mercury increases your charm and attractiveness. You can capture the attention and interest of others but it may be harder to keep id because you can be less disciplines now. If you have somethng important to say or do that will require the assistance of others, this is the time to make sure that there is substance to your words and deeds.

Ruler of the House

Now we give consideration to the Ruler of the House. In Astrology,  Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo.  The houses that Gemini and Virgo fall in your Natal Chart are the houses that will be affected by the transit of Mercury through Pisces.

For example, in my own natal chart Virgo is in the 11th House. In this case, it is said that the Ruler of the 11th house is in the 5th house (because Pisces is n my 5th house).  What this means is that the activities of the 11th house support the urge of the 5th house. This could be interpreted as friends, associates, and groups support love, creativity, self expression and children. Finally, we can expand on this statement using our keywords and say something like you feel more creative when you are workign with like minded people, working with others helps bring out your talents and allows you to expressive your creativity. You could meet someone special through your friends or through a group of like minded people, while working for a cause, or a friend could become a lover.
