When Mercury is in Taurus, our thoughts and speech slow down. We speak and communication more deliberately, determined to get our point across.  Our thinking process, such as how we process and exchange information, becomes more slow as well and we less inclined to change our minds about any subject or matter (Taurus is a fixed sign).  Our thoughts may turn to money and material matters. We may become more fond of what makes us comfortable in terms of the senses such as food, art, music etc...

Mercury in this placement can bring slow, deliberate thoughts about our relationships of all kinds. This might be a period in which we consider our relationships and if we are truly happy and satisfied with them. Mercury in the 7th house can indicate a period of (re) negotiation (mercury rules contracts) in our relationships to fix what may be broken or not working as it should be. We may communicate more with the people in our lives who represent our partners, this can be in business or in romantic relationships. You may find that you communicate better one-on-one with other people rather than with groups of individuals. 

Aspects 

Aspects, or relationships between planets, is another dimension of astrological interpretation that can be examined. Let us suppose then that you have Mars at 9° Taurus. This would mean that Transit Mars is applying a conjunction to your Natal Mars. A conjunction is a type of aspect in which the urge of one planet blends with the urge of another habit so well that it is difficult to tell them apart. Let us break it down:

Transit Mercury + Conjunct + Natal Mars

When transit Mercury conjunct Natal Mars the urge to communicate blends with the assertiveness of Mars. Your communication style is more aggressive now. Consequently you can get into more heavy debates and arguments the short time this aspect is active.  Your words carry more weight and power now, which is good because you may have to defend your stance or opinion on some matter. Even if you are sure of your own opinion, you express yourself with such confidence that you are able to sway people to your way of thinking. 

Ruler of the House

The Ruler of the House can also be considered.  Mercury rules both Gemini (air sign) and Virgo (earth sign) so the ingress of Mercury into Taurus will be influenced by they houses that these signs occupy in your natal chart. In this blog entry I will focus on Virgo. To begin, there are two questions you'll need to ask yourself. They are:

• What house does Mercury Ruled Virgo occupy in your natal chart?
• What house does Taurus (Mercury in Taurus) occpy in your natal chart?

Let us suppose that Taurus is your 7th house, and that will make Virgo your 11th House. This would be expressed as the ruler of your 11th house is in your 7th house. What this means is that the activities of the 11th house serve the urge or agenda of the 7th house. This could be expressed as "friends, groups, and associations serve marriage, agreements, and contracts."

We can then extrapolate on this statement and say something like "your friends become romantic or business partners. Your friendships have an affect on your relationships (for good or bad). You want your friends to approve of your relationships, or your partner; or you want your partner to approve of your friends and the causes to which you commit yourself."
