Mercury in Aries 2020

Mercury in Aries

Natural Chart / Whole Houses

Mercury in Aries  (General)

When Mercury is in Aries, people are more obstinate, headstrong, and quick to both speak and act. They may show themselves to be more clever, inventive, and changeable.  When Mercury is in Aries, people generally take a more mental approach to situations. They are overflowing with thoughts and ideas and they are more than willing to discuss them with others.  They tend to stay mentally active and busy going from one project to another rather quickly and may find that they start many projects but fail to finish them.  Frustration may result from an inability to bring thought and ideas into reality.

How Mercury in Aries Affect You

Where Aries is in your Natal Chart is the area of life where you will feel mentally assertive, impatient, and show initiative.

  • If your rising sign is Aries, Aries is your 1st  House
  • If your rising sign is Taurus, Aries is your 12th House
  • If your rising sign is Gemini, Aries is your 11th House
  • If your rising sign is Cancer, Aries is your 10th House
  • If your rising sign is Leo, Aries is your 9th House
  • If your rising sign is Virgo, Aries is your 8th House
  • If your rising sign is Libra, Aries is your 7th House
  • If your rising sign is Scorpio, Aries is your 6th House
  • If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Aries is your 5th House
  • If your rising sign is Capricorn, Aries is your 4th House
  • If your rising sign is Aquarius, Aries is your 3rd House
  • If your rising sign is Pisces, Aries is your 2nd House

Example

Transit Mercury in Aries and the 6th House
With Mercury (I think) in Aries (I am) transiting the 6th house of health and work, your thoughts come quickly and you express them with more confidence and enthusiasm than usual. Your mind and thoughts center around your work and you are more efficient and organized than usual. This is a good thing because your work environment will become more busy with this transit taking place.  You are more analytical and apply logic to anything you work on. The sixth house also rules over your health so this would be a good time to talk to your doctor about any health issues you may be having or to start taking steps to improve your health in some way. Any changes that you implement should be done in small steps over time.

Aspects

Aspects are another dimension of astrological interpretation that should be examined. Let us suppose, then, that you have Saturn at 3° Cancer, then Mercury would be applying a square to Saturn.  A square is a type of aspect in which the energy or urge of one planet is creating tension with the energy or urge of another planet.

Transit Mercury + Square + Natal Saturn

I Think + squares off with + I Achieve

When Transit Mercury makes a square to Natal Saturn you have less mental discipline, and are less optimistic. You can experience mental blocks and have trouble making decisions. It's important that you pay attention to the details of any matter right now. You might look for problems where none actually exist. Other people may make you feel inadequate right now, but you're proably just taking their words the wront way.

Ruler of the House

The ingress of Mercury into Aries will have an effect on the houses ruled by Mercury. Mercury rules both Virgo and Gemini. For the purpose of this blog, I will focus on Virgo.  There are two questions that you need to ask yourself here. They are:

  1.  What house does Mercury Ruled Virgo occupy in your Natal Chart?
  2.  In what house is Aries (Mercury in Aries) in your Natal Chart?
Let us then say that Mercury is in your 11th house and Aries in in your 6th. This would be expressed as the Ruler of the 11th House in the 6th House.  This would be interpreted as the activities of the 11th house serve the urge of the 6th House. This could be expressed as "friends, groups, and associations serve daily routine, work, and health"

We can then extrapolate on this statement and say something along the lines of "connecting with those of a like mind serve the urge to be gainfully employed and have good health. You are friends with your co-workers. You may become involved in groups that relate to your job; or working with groups become a part of your job.  You may bring your issues regarding humanitarian causes to your work environment, or you could meet like-minded people through your work.

How will the ingress of Mercury into Aries manifest for you?

Full Moon in Libra 2020

Full Moon in Libra
4/7/2020  7:34 PM (Pacific)
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

 The Sun / Moon Opposition

A Full Moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon are exactly 180° apart forming an opposition. As you can see from the chart above the Sun is at 18° Aries and the Moon is at 18° Libra making this a Full Moon. An opposition is a type of aspect in which the energy or urge of one planet is at odds with the energy or urge of another planet. You feel like someone is doing something to you and you feel powerless to do anything about it.

Me vs. We

When the Sun in Aries makes an opposition to the Moon in Libra our urge to assert ourselves, to be aggressive, pioneering, and adventurous is at odds with our urge to be more considerate of others, to exercise diplomacy, and to keep the peace.

With the outbreak of the corona virus, this is a pattern that we have seen in the last few weeks of people putting their personal needs head of the needs of others. This behavior has played out in the form of hoarded resources to the point that others have to go without, or people not following recommended guidelines (such as social distancing) which results in putting themselves and others at risk of infection. The "me people" and the "we people" may each feel like the other is engaging in behavior that designed to control or inhibit them in some way and so they react out of a sense of powerlessness and so they move to reclaim that power.

Transit Aspects

There's a lot going on in this chart but I want to focus in on a few things. They are:

  • Jupiter Conjunct Pluto
  • Moon Opposite Jupiter
  • Moon Opposite MC

Change is here to stay with us and we are going to have to adapt to the new rules of society or get left behind. It's hard to access the qualities of optimism, hope, and a spirit of cheerfulness now with all this change going on in the world. It's easy to succumb to depression and fear and it shows prompting us to spend more time alone or with close family and friends.

The Full Libra Moon

Whereas a New Moon brings new opportunities and new beginnings, a Full Moon brings completion and endings. With the Full Moon transiting the area of our charts that rules over marriage, agreements, and partnerships the urge to assess our relationships becomes a priority. We must decide if we are getting what we need out of our relationships, but more importantly are we giving our partners what they need as well.  If a compromise, or balance, cannot be achieved then it may be time to end the relationship to make room for something better. If you are single, the Full Moon in Libra can possibly bring new opportunity to make a connection with someone else and enjoy greater intimacy.

How to Work with Full Moon in Libra Energy

  •  practice more compromise and diplomacy
  •  surprise your partner with a special "date night".
  •  socialize with friends, have a party.
  •  indulge in a sensuous meal (but don't over do it!)
  •  see a play, concert, or show
  •  get in touch with your inner artist by exploring music, dance, writing, or art as a hobby.
  •  air out the house; redecorate your home (at least declutter or re-arrange furniture)
  •  buy a new outfit or get a makeover (even if it's just a blow-out at the hair salon)
  •  spending time outside enjoying the sun and a glass of wine or simply gardening.
Of course some of these activities may not be possible now with quaratines, self-isolation, and social distances initiatives in place but Libra is all about compromise so I am sure you'll find a way to satisfy the Full Libra Moon!

Personal Aspects

Let us suppose that you have Uranus in 21° Libra. This would mean that the Full Moon is applying a conjunction to your Natal Uranus. Let us break it down.

Transit Moon + conjunct +  Natal Uranus

I Feel + blends with +  I Rebel

When the full moon makes a conjunction with Natal Uranus you feel more spontaneous and unpredictable. You resist any restraints that may be put on you. New and unexpected things happen to you.

Venus in Gemini 2020

Venus in Gemini
4/3/2020  10:11 AM (Pacific)
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

Venus in Gemini (General)

When Venus (I Love) is in Gemini (I Communicate) people are active, restless, friendly, sociable, and flirtatious. They are eager to talk and socialize but can be somewhat lazy in following through on any commitments.  However fun and outgoing people may be, there may also be somewhat distanced on a certain level.  In terms of romance and love, which is ruled by Gemini, we are more attracted to people on a mental level, someone who has a way with words and can carry on a conversation.

The house where Gemini is in your Natal Chart is the area of life or subject that you will enjoy talking and communicating about.

  • If your rising sign is Aries, Gemini is your 3rd House.
  • If your rising sign is Taurus, Gemini is your 2nd House.
  • If your rising sign is Gemini, Gemini is your 1st House.
  • If your rising sign is Cancer, Gemini is your 12th House.
  • If your rising sign is Leo, Gemini is your 11th House.
  • If your rising sign is Virgo, Gemini is your 10th House.
  • If your rising sign is Libra, Gemini is your 9th House.
  • If your rising sign is Scorpio, Gemini is your 8th House.
  • If your rising sign is Sagittarius, Gemini is your 7th House.
  • If your rising sign is Capricorn, Gemini is your 6th House.
  • If your rising sign is Aquarius, Gemini is your 5th House.
  • If your rising sign is Pisces, Gemini is your 4th House.

Example
Venus in Gemini and the 8th House

I Love + I Communicate + Sex, Death, Transformation
Venus (I love) in Gemini (I think) in the house of sex, transformation, and shared resources would translate to I love to think about / curious about sex and transformation. With Venus in Gemini and the 8th house you might be feeling restless and indecisive about love. You may be attracted to someone who is deep and mysterious but only on an intellectual level and it is not likely that you would commit to anything serious. Gemini represent the twins and so you can find yourself attracted to more than one person or even involved in something of a love triangle. Again, this is all on the mental level, something that you find yourself thinking about or are curious about but which you do not commit to in the area of action.

Aspects

Aspects, or relationships between planets is another dimensions of astrological interpretation that should be considered. For example, let us suppose that you have Neptune at 4° Sagitarrius. This would mean that Transit Venus is applying an opposition to Natal Neptune. Let us break down this aspect to understand it better.

Transit Venus + Opposition + Natal Neptune

I love is in opposition to I refine

When Transit Venus is in Opposition to Natal Neptune you are more susceptible to deception in both money and love. It's important that you don't make any major decisions regarding finances or relationships during the time this transit is active. Beware of anyone who would take advantage of you as they can perceive your kindness and generosity as a weakness. You may have a tendency now to idealize anyone that you are interested in or who seems interested in you, which could lead to disappointment and embarassment. There is also the possiblity of misinterpreting another person's kindness for something more. Hint: If you think someone is flirting with you, they are probably not.

Ruler of the House

The Ruler of the house should also be considered. Venus rules both Taurus and Libra so the houses that these signs are in in your Natal Chart will be influenced by the ingress of Venus in Gemini. In this blog entry I am only going to focus on Taurus.  There are two questions that you need to ask yourself to understand the ruler of the house.

  1. What house does Venus-Ruled Taurus occupy in your Natal Chart?
  2. What house does Gemini (Venus in Gemini) occupy in your Natal Chart?
Let us say that Taurus is in your 7th house, which would put Gemini in your 8th House. In this instance it would be said that the Ruler of the 7th House is in the 8th House. This could be interpreted as "marriage, agreements, and partnerships serve sex, transformation, and spirituality.

We can then extrapolate on this statement and say something like "you are attracted to someone who is dark, mysterious, and magnetic. Someone who is intense and passionate with whom you can explore the darker side of your sexual fantasies. You're looking for a partner so that you can share your financial resources."

How will the ingress of Venus into Gemini manifest for you?

Chart Interpretation Made Easy

Chart Interpretation Made Easy

Well maybe not easy, but definitely easier. Chart interpretation is probably one of the hardest aspects of Astrology for the new student to master. Many seem to labor under the belief that they have to memorize the meanings of the all 10 planets in each of the 12 signs and the 12 houses. While this is not impossible, it isn't necessary either.

Most Astrologers use a keyword system and learn to string them together to form the basis of their interpretations upon which they expand based on their knowledge and experience in Astrology. So the first thing the notice astrologer needs to do is begin a collection of keywords and phrases associated with the Planets, Signs, and Astrological Houses.  I highly recommend Keywords for Astrology by Hanjo Banzhaf and Anna Haebler.

We will use the example of the Sun in Libra and the 11th house.

  • The Sun-  (I AM) the urge to express our individuality, to create and "shine".  Keywords- Authority, Confidence, Creative Power, Ego, Father, Hope, Vitality, Potential, Dignity, Joy, Generosity, Extravagance, Pride, Individuality, Recognition.
  • Libra- (I BALANCE) Marriage, agreements, partnerships. Keywords- Relationship, Pleaser, Fair-Minded, Diplomat, Idealistic, Impartial, Considerate, Neutral, Indecisive, Flirtatious, Good Taste.
  • The Eleventh House is aligned with Aquarius and is ruled by Uranus. It is associated with groups of people such as friends and associations, networking, social justice.  Originality, sudden unexpected events, invention, surprises, and all things futuristic.

Armed with our keywords, we can then apply the following method which I developed myself as I struggled to learn Astrology. First take a sheet of paper and divide it into four boxes, two on top and two on the bottom and label each box like so.

Next, in the top right box write down the Planet in the Sign, including the Sign Ruler; and in the top left box write down the Planet in the House. For example:

Now using your keywords, interpret the Planet in the Sign in the top left box and the Planet in the House in the top right box. For example:

Next, you read over the information in the first two boxes and then using a process of free-association you blend the meanings of these placements together. Don't give it too much thought, just let your intuition guide you.

Finally, in the last box you will edit and refine what you write in the third box to form your final interpretation.

And there you have your interpretation! With a little practice...well alot of practice, you'll be able to interpret planets in signs and houses like a professional. Now you can try this procedure with all the planets in your chart before moving on to other considerations such as Chiron, the North Node, House Rulers, Essential Dignity,  and Aspects

How I Healed a Broken Heart with Astrology

How I Healed a Broken-Heart with Astrology

In the past I suffered from bouts of depression. It wasn't to the severity that I would miss work or that it would interfere in my life with my work responsibilities or my ability to navigate life on a daily basis. In fact, if you knew me you wouldn't even realize that I was depressed. On the outside I would be funny, cheerful, and engaging. This was in stark contrast to the gloomy loneliness that I felt inside.

One of the ways that I began to cope was by getting involved in the hook-up culture.  That is, I would meet men online, have sex with them and never see them again.  It wasn't something that I did often, maybe once every three months or so. It was something I did to make me feel young, attractive, and vital again. I never expected anything serious to come from my escapades.

Then in early 2018, I met a sweet, handsome young man online. He was about 20 years younger than me and, I think, less experienced than myself in terms of male/male relations. He was not like the other men I met who usually put on their clothes and leave as soon as the sex was over. Instead, lover boy would stay. We would cuddle, and have deep conversations together. What started as a one-night-stand blossomed into a friends-with-benefits arrangement.  We continued to meet on a semi-regular basis for little more than a year.

Then lover boy became more erratic. I went a long time without seeing and hearing from him and then I got an email from lover boy out of the blue. In his email, lover boy explained that he struggles with depression and anxiety which caused him to abuse drugs. He explained that when he was using drugs it made him "super horny" and he enjoyed coming over having sex with me and spending time in conversation. He explained that his absence was due to the fact that he had been in rehab but the drug he was prescribed during his recovery kept him from being able to maintain an erection and he was embarrassed to tell me. I told him that that didn't matter to me that I enjoyed his company too. Afterwards he promised to come see me soon but that never happened.

Over the next few weeks, I sent lover boy a few texts and emails which went unanswered. My Venus in Scorpio in mutual reception to my Pluto in Libra (hint: it boils down to obsession with love) couldn't let it go so I set about investigating him. I began monitoring his social media accounts.  Eventually, I learned that he had gotten some girl pregnant and was planning on marrying her. To be honest, that did not deter me. I understand that sexuality can be fluid and I had slept with married men before. Through friends of friends of friends (think six degrees of separation) I discovered that the young woman lied to him and he wasn't the father of the child! After this occurred, be deleted all of his social media accounts and the trail went dead.

Again my Venus / Pluto mutual reception wouldn't let me drop it. I tried a few Return to Me spells to no avail. I searched for him in my tarot-cards and kept getting the 9 of Wands which I interpreted as him being in rehab again. I even tried one of those online background checks but it turned up nothing. Unable to call back my lover boy, I decided to use Astrology to heal my broken heart.

I set about to create his Natal Chart based on what information I knew about him. I had snuck a peek at his driver's license once while he was in the shower and so I knew his birthdate. I also knew that he was born in this area. Based on my initial meeting with him, I decided that his Ascendant, or Rising Sign was Aquarius. After that things just fell into place and seemed to fit. I confirmed some of the information based on personal knowledge. For example, his 8th House Mars indicated a man with a big dick and boy was that right!

When I was satisfied with the results, I set about my process for interpreting a Birth Chart. Delineating lover boy's natal chart helped me to better understand him. For example, his Gemini Moon explained his moodiness; his Aries 3rd House Saturn explained his depression; his 12th House Neptune explained his neurotic tendencies; his 8th House Mars explained his insatiable need for sex; and his third house Mercury indicated his ease at conversation. In addition, his Chiron in Libra and the 9th house indicated a wound revolving around relationships and partnerships. Finally, North Node in Virgo and the 8th House indicated that he is to overcome illusionary, codependent, and escapist tendencies and become more organized, efficient, and productive.

I carried lover boy's Natal Chart around with me for one moon cycle, occasionally taking it out from time to time to read it over. This made me feel closer to him. When I was ready, I then created a Midpoint Composite Chart of his Natal Chart and my own. Just like before, I delineating the midpoint chart which helped me to better understand our relationship. For example, our shared Ascendant indicated an inability of one of us to commit to the relationship; our 6th House moon indicated that one of us put it more work than the other; our 9th house Venus indicated a relationships built on sexual exploration and adventure that would constantly need to be stimulated; our Scorpio mars indicated a heavy emphasis on sex and sex being used by one to control the other or obsession with sex; finally our shared Uranus in the 1st house indicated an unstable relationship that suffered from sudden and unexpected changes.

Finally the tightest aspects in the chart (remember the tighter the aspect, the stronger it is felt) summed up the relationship. Our tightest aspect was Venus in the 9th house forming a trine to Uranus in the First House. This aspect indicated a relationship in which each partner is interested in the other. They can be openly affectionate with each other and show their interest in new, original, and unconventional ways. One partner played the role of "demanding teacher" and other the "rebellious student". They relationship provided a means by which each partner can explore new experiences (unfamiliar, taboo, etc...) that help shape who they are.

When I was done, I carried the composite chart with me for a week or so, again occasionally taking it out and reading it over from time to time. I regarded this as a period of grieving for the relationship that I had shared with lover boy.  When I was ready to let go and  move on, I took the two pages, folded them together and burned them in a cleansing fire. Afterward I collected the ashes and scattered them at a four-way crossroads. When I returned home, I engaged in a cleansing spiritual bath to wash away any lingering feelings or emotions of an unhealthy nature. As I write this blog today, I look back on the relationship with a certain amount of detached fondness.
