Mercury Direct (2024)

Mercury Direct

Natural Chart

Affirmation

My communication is clear, confident, and courageous. My thoughts flow freely, and my words have impact. I express myself authentically and take initiative in my interactions

Mercury Direct

Mercury has just stationed direct at 15° 58' Aries. We've officially passed the peak of the retrograde phase, but the journey isn't quite over yet. We're now entering the shadow period, which lasts until May 13th, 9:00 PM Pacific Time.

While the full-blown retrograde throws curveballs our way, forcing us to confront communication breakdowns, revisit old ideas, and re-evaluate our approach, the shadow period is all about integration. This is where the rubber meets the road. Did you learn your lessons? Are you ready to put those newfound skills to the test?

Remember the Retrograde in Aries? A Refresher

Mercury's retrograde dance through Aries was all about harnessing that fiery energy for good. It challenged us to:

  • Channel impulsiveness: We learned to take a breath before blurting things out, transforming our "ready, fire, aim" tendencies into thoughtful communication.
  • Master healthy stress responses: Aries often charges headfirst into stressful situations. The retrograde likely nudged us towards calmer strategies for dealing with pressure.
  • Respect boundaries (ours and others'): Aries has a pioneering spirit, but sometimes that means steamrolling over people. The retrograde may have highlighted the importance of respecting limitations, both personal and those of others.
  • Discern value in revisited opportunities: Sometimes old ideas deserve a second look. The retrograde might have prompted us to re-evaluate past projects or reconnect with people from our history.

But wait, there's more!

The personal impact of the retrograde goes beyond just the sign of Aries. It all depends on where this transit landed in your natal chart, the blueprint of your birth. Additionally, if Mercury interacted with any other planets during its retrograde dance, the lessons become even more nuanced.

The Shadow Period: Putting it into Practice

The upcoming shadow period is your chance to integrate these lessons into your daily life. Here's what you can do:

  • Reflect: Journal about your experiences during the retrograde. What communication snafus did you encounter? How did you deal with stress? Did you have any "aha" moments about old projects or relationships?
  • Refine: Now that you've identified areas for improvement, take steps to refine your approach. Practice active listening and clear communication. Experiment with healthy stress-reduction techniques. Set boundaries and learn to recognize them in others.
  • Revisit: If the retrograde stirred up thoughts about past endeavors, consider revisiting them with a fresh perspective. Maybe that old business idea deserves another look, or perhaps it's time to reconnect with someone from your past.

By May 13th, when the shadow period ends, you'll be ready to move forward with a newfound clarity and a toolbox full of communication and stress management skills. So, embrace the shadow period, dear reader, and use it to your astrological advantage!

Full Moon in Scorpio

Full Moon in Scorpio

Natural Chart

Full Moon in Scorpio

  • Theme: Emotional Catharsis
  • The Lesson: To bravely confront your deepest emotions and shadows to achieve powerful transformation.
  • Affirmation: I fully feel and experience my emotions. Opening up makes me a stronger person. By letting go of things that hold me back, I allow myself to heal and change. I'm cleansed and ready for a fresh start.

Interpretation

This full moon is said to bring a wave of introspection.  Imagine yourself floating on a calm lake, gazing beneath the surface.  Just as the moon's light illuminates the night, this full moon energy can illuminate the depths of your subconscious.  Hidden fears, emotions, and desires might bubble up, prompting you to confront them.

This can be an intense experience.  You might find yourself brooding more than usual, lost in thought as you grapple with these unearthed feelings.  But remember, this is a chance for growth!  By acknowledging these hidden aspects of yourself, you can begin to release them and create space for something new.

The full moon isn't just about dredging up the past; it's about stepping into the future.  This lunar phase is believed to be a potent time for change.  With a newfound awareness of your outdated thoughts and behavior patterns, you might feel a strong urge to break free from them.  This could involve anything from finally quitting that unfulfilling job to letting go of a toxic relationship.

The full moon's energy is often associated with heightened emotions, and vulnerability can be a big part of that.  You might find yourself craving deeper connections with loved ones, feeling a stronger desire for intimacy and emotional support.  This is a beautiful time to open up to those you trust, to share your newfound insights and experiences.

Remember, the full moon isn't about becoming a different person; it's about embracing your authentic self.  By confronting your inner world and letting go of what no longer serves you, you create space for growth and transformation.  So use this full moon energy to illuminate your path, embrace your vulnerability, and connect with those who matter most.

The Mercury Influence

With Mercury Retrograde conjunct the North Node in Aries, get ready for a communication do-over! This is a strong influence pushing us to speak our minds and be upfront with what we think. However,  watch out for falling back on old habits in our relationships, like saying what we think people want to hear instead of being honest. This is a time to find a middle ground: be yourself and express your ideas clearly, but also build real connections with others through open communication.

Mercury Retrograde in Aries (2024)

Mercury Retrograde in Aries

Mercury Retrograde in Aries

When Mercury, the planet of communication and thought, backtracks through the bold and impulsive sign of Aries, we're all in for a period of introspection and potential mishaps. Here's what to expect:

  • Inner Critic on Overdrive: This transit can trigger us to analyze how we typically react to stress or outside pressure. Are we quick to anger? Do we shut down or lash out? Patience might wear thin, and impulsive decisions could become a regrettable habit.
  • Communication Clash: Watch your words! Aries' direct nature can make us blunt and impatient during Mercury retrograde. Simple misunderstandings can snowball into arguments if we're not careful. Listen actively, and double-check emails before hitting send.
  • Blast from the Past: Mercury retrograde often brings up unresolved issues. Old ideas, projects, or even past relationships might resurface. This can be a chance to revisit them with fresh eyes and make amends, or simply gain closure.
  • Tech Troubles: From glitchy computers to lost phones, expect some technical hiccups during this time. Back up important data regularly, and be prepared for some digital disruptions.

Remember, this is a time for slowing down and reflecting. Take a deep breath before reacting, and prioritize clear communication. By being mindful, we can navigate this retrograde with minimal drama and even use it as an opportunity for personal growth.

Mercury Retrograde June/July 2020

Mercury Retrograde Chart
June 17th 2020  9:59 PM
Whole Houses

Mercury Retrograde Dates June / July 2020

  • Pre-Shadow      6/01/20      9:51 PM        05° Cancer 30'
  • Retrograde        6/17/20      9:53 PM        14° Cancer 46'
  • Direct                7/12/20      1:21 AM       05° Cancer 30'
  • Post Shadow     7/26/20    10:09 AM       14° Cancer 46'

The Pre-Shadow is when we can begin to see Mercury start slowing down and this is where we will begin to feel the beginning of Mercury Retrograde. This period of time can be marked by errors in communication, travel, and electronics. These are just general events that usually occur during periods of Mercury Retrograde. The Sign or Signs that Mercury RX occurs in also influences events that occur during Mercury RX. The Pre-Shadow begins in Cancer and this is where people will generally begin to feel the walls closing in on their homes. They may feel stifled or suffocated inside their own homes and start thinking about making changes to improve their home by changing the look and feel of the place in which they live. This is a good period to sit down and brainstorm ideas, sketch out a plan, or start collecting images from magazines, newspapers, and the internet to create a new vision of your living space.

However, to figure out exactly how Mercury Retrograde will affect you on a personal, individual level, you will need to see what natal house your Cancer is in. The area of life represented by that house is the area of life that will most be affected by Mercury Retrograde. Essentially, those events that occur during the Pre-Shadow will frame your experiences during the retrograde phase. These experiences are believed to be necessary for our own personal growth and soul-evolvement. At the end of the Pre-Shadow, Mercury will come to a complete stop at 14° Cancer and sit there for a few days days before moving again.

The Retrograde period is when Mercury starts moving again, only from our perspective on Earth it will appear to be moving backwards across the zodiac. It is during this period that we will most strongly feel the effects of Mercury Retrograde. Generally speaking, we can expect communication, travel, and electronics to go all wonky on us. During Mercury Retrograde, we refrained from making any major decisions or changes. Instead we are told to RE-lax, RE-evaluate, and RE-assess our issues and conditions

Generally speaking in addition to feeling the urge to re-new, re-arrange, and re-model our living spaces Mercury Retrograde in Cancer can manifest as opportunities to explore how we nurture and heal ourselves and others. Cancer represents our mothers, so this is a good time to remember, reassess, and reevaluate our relationship with the parent who nurtured us (or didn't) in our childhood; as well as how we love and nurture ourselves and others in the here and now. We can now confront and heal childhood issues and make a course correction if we feel that we are repeating the mistakes of the past

There is a connection here between our immediate home environment and our emotional feelings and well being as several philosophies and beliefs support this connection. For example, in the practice of dream interpretation it is said the a house or home is a metaphor for your life in general. In addition, in the science and practice of Feng Shui it is believed that the manner in which our living spaces are arranged can have a direct impact on our lives and the things which happen to us. And in 2012 there was a TV show on Bravo called Interior Therapy that helped people confront and heal emotional blocks and issues by changing some aspect of their home and living space.

Again, to figure out exactly how Mercury Retrograde will affect you on a personal, individual level, you will need to see what natal house Cancer is in. The area of life represented by that house is the area of life that will most be affected by Mercury Retrograde. Towards the end of this retrograde period, Mercury will begin to slow down again before coming to a full stop at 5° Cancer It will set there for a few days before it starts moving forward again. Mercury is said to Station Direct when it starts moving forward again. This is the period when many people feel like they can start breathing again (metaphorically speaking). They hear Mercury Direct and think that its over. But that is not the case. Mercury Stationing Direct is really the beginning of the Post-Shadow period.

The Post-Shadow is the period between the time Mercury stations direct and it reaches the point where it initially began to slow down in the first place. It is characterized as a period in which those issues raised during Mercury Retrograde are still present but may be winding down, that is, they are still present but not as intense as before. During this post shadow phase is where we take what we learned during Mercury Retrograde and apply that knowledge to re-dress and re-solve those issues and conditions that were raised during Mercury Retrograde.

Mercury Retrograde Feb - Mar 2020

Mercury Retrograde

Feb - Mar  2020

Pre-Shadow               2/02     12:42 AM      28° Aquarius.svg 13'
Retrograde                 2/16     4:53 AM        12° Pisces.svg 53'

Post-Shadow Ends    3/29     7:32 PM         12° Pisces.svg 53'

The Pre-Shadow is when we can begin to see Mercury start slowing down and this is where we will begin to feel the beginning of Mercury Retrograde. This period of time can be marked by errors in communication, travel, and electronics. These are just general events that usually occur during periods of Mercury Retrograde. The Sign or Signs that Mercury RX occurs in also influences events that occur during Mercury RX.

The Pre-Shadow begins in Aquarius and this can cause people to exhibit unusual or unpredictable thoughts and behavior. During this time period you could re-evaluate the people and groups you choose to associate your self with. You may feel that you no longer fit in with any of these groups or associations, or their purpose no longer appeals to you. You may decide to put some distance between you and them or remove yourself from them all together. Alternately, you may even find yourself cast out or removed from a group or your friend's circle.

To figure out exactly how Mercury Retrograde will affect you on a personal, individual level, you will need to see what natal house your Aquarius is in. The area of life represented by that house is the area of life that will most be affected by Mercury Retrograde. Essentially, those events that occur during the Pre-Shadow will frame your experiences during the retrograde phase. These experiences are believed to be necessary for our own personal growth and soul-evolvement. At the end of the Pre-Shadow, Mercury will come to a complete stop and 12° Pisces and sit there for about four days before moving gain.

Instead we are told to RE-lax, RE-evaluate, RE-assess our issues and conditions

Generally speaking Mercury Retrograde in Pisces can manifest as opportunities to confront and heal emotional baggage. Issues long hidden or thought to be in the past can come to the fore now forcing us to deal with them.  Again, to figure out exactly how Mercury Retrograde will affect you on a personal, individual level, you will need to see what natal house your Pisces is in. The area of life represented by that house is the area of life that will most be affected by Mercury Retrograde Towards the end of this retrograde period, Mercury will begin to slow down again before coming to a full stop at 28° Aquarius. It will set there for about five days before it starts moving forward again.

Finally, we experience the Post-Shadow. This is the period between the time Mercury stations direct and it reaches the point where it initially began to slow down in the first place. Just like when you get in your car to drive somewhere, your speed is not constant. The speed of your vehicle is constantly shifting, slowing down, stopping, and speeding up again. In like fashion, Mercury's speed is not constant. Mercury usually moves at about 2 degrees per day, however, during the post shadow period is may move only about 1 degree (or less) per day and will pick up speed as the days go forward.

The post-shadow period of Mercury Retrograde is characterized as a period in which those issues raised during Mercury Retrograde are still present but may be winding down, that is, they are still present but not as intense as before. During this post shadow phase is where we take what we learned during Mercury Retrograde and apply that knowledge to re-dress and re-solve those issues and conditions that were raised during Mercury Retrograde.

Affirmative Prayer for Mercury Retrograde

Affirmative Prayer for Mercury Retrograde

I am in the spirit of God and the spirit of God is in me. Therefore everything that it true of God is true of me. My mind, body, and spirit are in complete harmony with the dance of the universe.  There is no relationship or eventuality for which I am not prepared to experience in a positive and healthy manner and from which I may learn and grow. I will meet the challenges before me with patience and the understanding that everything is temporary. Thank you God-in-Me for peace and harmony. And so it is.

As above, so below

Mercury Retrograde July 2019

Mercury Retrograde
7/07/2019  4:14 PM (Pacific)
Oak Harbor, WA

Mercury Retrograde is upon us once again.  It begins on Sunday July 7th in the sign of Leo.  What does this mean for us? Well Leo is the sign of the Lion, so it's no wonder that one of the keywords associated with Leo is "pride". Other words associated with Leo are arrogance and playfullness. So with Mercury RX in the fiery-fixed sign of Leo we can have a greater tendency to exhibit these traits in general.

Leo is associated with drama and theatrics so we could crave more attention and love. This, in and of itself, isn't necessarily a bad thing but with Mercury in retrograde our efforts to get the attention and love that we seek can't always be well received. We need to make sure that we are considerate of the feelings of others, listen as much as we talk, and be considerate of others.

In his journey backwards through the zodiac, Mercury moves into the water-cardinal sign of Cancer on July 19th. Whenever a planet ingresses (enters) a new sign, it is felt in the world. We can feel this shift as a more emotional nature (not necessarily tied to love) and so we may move to nurture our own needs in this area.  Again, it is important that we not be selfish and self-centered. This retrograde affects everyone and so everyone is going to need more emotional support and encouragement. We need to consider the feelings of others as well as our own. Try not to be too emotionally needy.

The Aspects

Looking at the chart above we see that Mercury is making a conjunction to Mars in Leo. Mars brings strength to our opinions and we're not afraid to share them with others. This can lead to debates or arguments about love, children, or creative expression.

Mercury in Leo is making a square (hard aspect) to Uranus in Taurus. Uranus brings instability to how we exchange information with others. This can produce tension between ourselves and authority figures. Disagreements can arise with those in authority over how we creatively express our individuality, which may be more unusual and unconventional.  There is a strain here between the traditional and the non-traditional.

Mercury in Leo is making a square (hard aspect) to Neptune in Pisces.  This can translate to an inability to distinguish between fantasy and reality.  We only see what we want to see and fail to take other people's opinion and perspective into account.

The Sun opposite (hard aspect) Saturn and Pluto can bring up childhood issues and blockages that need to be confronted and healed. You may find that you're competing with yourself to achieve an unrealistic goal, or one that no longer seems important in the grand scheme of things. It is important to investigate why you feel you need to accomplish this, is it for yourself or are you trying to appease someone else (such as a parent).

Finally we have a grand-water-trine between the Sun in Cancer, The Ascendant in Scorpio, and Neptune in Pisces.  This aspect accentuates the emotions, and we are better able to dig in and explore them past the surface level.  Our emotions and intuition is stronger now and we are able to put them to positive constructive use.

The house(s) where Leo and Cancer fall in your natal chart are the areas of life where Mercury Retrograde will mostly be felt and affected by.  What are these houses in your chart and how will Mercury Rx manifest for you?

Mercury Retrograde Pre-Shadow June 2019

In a previous blog entry, I explain mercury retrograde post-shadow and you might want to go back and read that entry before you read any further.

The Mercury Retrograde pre-shadow occurs about two weeks before Mercury goes retrograde. This is the period in which Mercury starts slowing down to come to a complete stop. This is called stationing. The point where Mercury starts moving backwards is the actual period of Mercury Retrograde. At some point it will station, or slow down again in anticipation of moving forward again (station direct)

Determining the Pre-Shadow Period

First we need to determine the exact period of Mercury Retrograde. To do this we look at the ephemeris. If you have a hard time seeing the images below, you can see the online ephemeris here or you can open the image in another window and they will appear bigger.  However, keep in mind the ephemeris at the link provided is set to Universal Time and the one below is set to Pacific Time

Looking at the ephemeris, locate the column for Mercury which is the fifth one from the left and then we see that Mercury begins the month of July in Leo. We then run our finger down the column until we come to July 8th here we the following "4°R28".  That "R" stand for Retrograde and this means that mercury retrogrades in 4 degrees 28 minutes of Leo.

Now we continue running our finger down the column and see that Mercury enters Cancer on July 20th. Finally on August 1st we see 23°D57. That "D" stands for Direct and this means that Mercury has started moving forward again.

Knowing that Mercury stations direct in 23° Cancer, we then look backwards through the ephemeris to see when Mercury was previously in that position and this will be the beginning of the Pre-Shadow.

Examining the ephemeris, we see that Mercury was previously in 23° Cancer on June 20th and so this date marks the beginning Mercury Retrograde Pre-Shadow.

Now, in order to determine the post shadow, we look to the ephemeris again and see that the post shadow will begin on August 1st in 23° Leo (where it stationed direct after the retrograde period) and it will ends on August 15th in 4° Leo. How do we know this? Because Mercury originally went retrograde in 4° Leo so this is the point where it picks back up from where it all started.

This is probably a little confusing so let's look at the time line like so:

  • Pre-Shadow                6/20/19 in 23 degrees Cancer
  • Retrograde                  7/08/19 in 04 degrees Leo
  • Post Shadow               8/01/19 in 23 degrees Cancer
  • Post Shadow (ends)     8/15/19 in 04 degrees Leo

Looking at it this way, it probably makes a lot more sense right?

The pre-shadow period is where we first feel the initial beginnings of mercury retrograde. Any events or changes may be small, almost imperceptible but can become more prominent as we get closer to actual Mercury Retrograde. To better understand how Mercury Retrograde will affect you, it is necessary to investigate the natal houses where Mercury Retrograde will take place, in this case Cancer and Leo.

Full Moon in Libra

Full Moon in Libra

Full Moon in Libra
3/20/2019  6:42 PM (Pacific)
Natural Chart / Whole Houses

A Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon occupy the same degree of opposite signs of the zodiac.  As you can see from the chart above, the Moon is at zero degrees Libra and the Sun is 180 degrees away at zero degrees Aries forming an opposition. This creates a dynamic of the Sun and Moon challenging one another; something is being split, divided.

The Big Picture

Libra is an Air / Cardinal / Masculine sign.  Libra represents the archetype of the diplomat, the mediator, or the peacemaker.  Libras are generally thought to be people pleasers, vacillating, fair-minded, idealistic, impartial, considerate, neutral,, and indecisive. It is ruled by Venus

Aries is a Fire / Cardinal / Masculine sign. People born under the sign of Aries represent the archetype of the pioneer, the explorer, or the adventurer. Aries people are generally thought to be strong, assertive, energetic, impatient, headstrong, fearless, and eager.  It is ruled by Mars.

With the Moon in Libra (I Balance) forming an opposition to the Sun in Aries (I AM) we have a dynamic of We vs. Me; Relationships vs. Individuality; and Compromise Vs. DissensionDuring this time you may feel pulled in opposite directions. You may feel that someone is pressuring you to do something that is not of primary importance to you and you feel like there isn't anything you can do about the situation.

This is a pattern we can see play out on a large scale by watching the news, paying attention to what is going on on social media and in the lives of our family and friends; or on a small scale by examining our own natal charts to see where the Full Moon is taking place.

The Personal Touch

To understand how the Full Moon in Libra affects us an individuals we need to see where 0 degrees Libra is in our own natal charts.  For example, zero degrees Libra in my natal chart is on the cusp of the 12th House, which is known as the area of our chart associated with endings, the past, and hidden things.  Across from the 11th house at 180 degrees is the 6th house which rules over health, work and our daily routines.

To better understand this dynamic, we might want to create a mind-map like so.

Moon in Libra              Sun in Aries

relationships                  individuality
we                                   me
compromise                   dissension

12th House                   6th House

endings                         health
hidden things                work
the past                         daily routine

When looked at this way, it could be interpreted that (for me) that some unresolved issues surrounding a past relationship may conflict with who I feel that I am today.  This conflict may play out in my work environment and have an affect on my health or upset my daily routine.

In addition to these placements, it would be wise to check your current transits at the time of the Full Moon as well.  For example, the fact that Mercury Retrograde is also transiting my fifth further echoes the idea of having to re-visit or re-examine a past relationship. Finally, it is always a good idea to look at the aspects, or relationships, between the Full Moon and other planets in your natal chart.

Where does zero degrees Libra fall in your chart and how will the Full Moon in Libra manifest for you?
